Nicolas Batum To Play with France at FIBA World Cup
Portland Trail Blazers small forward Nicolas Batum said he's ready to suit up for the French men's basketball team in the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2014 in Spain, the Frenchman confirmed on his Twitter account on Thursday.
Batum, who averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game last season, played with the Frenchmen basketball squad that won the 2013 EuroBasket Championship in Slovenia.
"It is with pleasure that I confirm my participation at the World Cup in Spain this summer," Batum tweeted according to Oregon Live.
Aside Batum, the Frenchmen will also get additional boost from Spurs point guard Tony Parker, forward Boris Diaw and a handful of former NBA players in the most prestigious basketball tournament in the world.
Parker, who is currently helping the Spurs reach their second straight NBA Finals appearance, even believed Batum will be the face of the French national team in the future.
"Batum was a critical part of France's European Championship team last summer and, according to San Antonio Spurs All-Star point guard Tony Parker, he's the future face of the French National Team," via Oregon Live.
France is bracketed with European rivals Spain and Serbia, South American powerhouse Brazil, Egypt and Iran in a very deep Group A.
