Nicole Kidman may join cast of 'Wonder Woman'
Oscar winner Nicole Kidman may join the cast of the live action film of “Wonder Woman” under Warner Bros. (WB), which is slated for release on 2017.
The Wrap reports that the Australian actress is touted to play a high ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot who is set to play the titular role.
There is no other high-ranking Amazonian warrior in Wonder Woman’s hometown Themyscira except for Queen Hippolyta, who is Wonder Woman’s biological mother. In the comic books, Hippolyta had a brief affair with Zeus and gave birth to Diana. It is unclear, however, if the film will adapt this mythology to tell how Diana became Wonder Woman.
Note that the exact role is still under wraps and the speculation about the character that Kidman is set to play is yet to be confirmed by WB.
Other casts for the film include Chris Pine who will play Colonel Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s love interest.
Patty Jenkins, known for her film “Monster” will direct the female-led ensemble of the live action flick. Jason Fuchs from “Pan” penned the screenplay. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder will co-produce the film.
Wonder Woman is a superhero appearing in DC comics created by William Moulton Marston. She is the princess of the Amazons, an all-female warrior group that resides in Themyscira. Outside her hometown, she is known as Diana Prince. She has superior combat and battle skills and she wields a powerful arsenal of weapons that include Lasso of Truth, bracelets and tiara which are based on Amazon technology.
Kidman will be seen next on “The Secret in Their Eyes” with Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The actress is no stranger to comic book films. She previously starred in “Batman Forever” as Val Kilmer’s love interest.
“Wonder Woman” opens on June 23, 2017.
