Nigerian First Lady Did Not Weep On National TV
The patience of Nigerian First Lady, similarly named Patience Jonathan, took her to National TV "News Ten" on May 4. The First Lady was said to have "wept" on television prior to ordering the arrest of Naomi Mutu Nyadar, leader of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign rally.
On April 14, reportedly 276 high school girls were abducted in Nigeria. Boko Haram militants stormed an all-girls secondary school in the village of Chibok, in Borno state, packed the girls into trucks and disappeared into a remote area along the border in Cameroon and Chad.
Parents and teachers of the students took to the streets of Abuja last week to rally on the government of Nigeria for swift action on the girls' disappearance. #BringBackOurGirls campaign was formed with Naomi Mutu Nyadar as the leader.
Following the protest, First Lady Patience Jonathan appeared on National TV News Ten on Sunday, May 4 with rumours that she had dramatically wept on TV. However, Sahara Reports said she did not "weep" on TV. As it turned out, she was meeting with the principal of the high school, several wives of state governors and women groups to talk about the abduction. The Nigerian First Lady was actually interrogating the principal and other activists, allegedly accusing them for ochestrating the abduction story. Patience claimed that they only wanted to destroy her husband, the President Goodluck Jonathan's reputation.

The Associated Press reported that early Monday, the Nigerian First Lady ordered the arrest of Nyadar, leader of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign rally, with accusations that she had fabricated the abduction story to tarnish the reputation of the Nigerian government. Patience Jonathan also accused the protesters to have collaborated with the insurgent group Boko Haram in the abduction.
Daily Trust newspaper reported that the First Lady ordered all Nigerian women to stop protesting and if they get hurt in the protest, then they only have themselves to blame.
Saratu Angus Ndirpaya talked to the Associated Press and said that she, along with Naomi Mutu Nyadar were taken to a police station by State Security after a meeting at the presidential villa, and that Nyadar has not yet been released.
