A preview video of “The Night of” episode 2 has been released online. The video shows Naz explaining the events surrounding the murder to his parents. Meanwhile, the investigators return to the crime scene to examine the evidence.

[Spoiler alert]

Naz (Riz Ahmed) was arrested in the first episode, after a girl he had just met the previous night was found dead. A blood stained knife was found in his possession, and he nervously recounted some details about the events of the night to the officer in charge – Box (Bill Camp).

One defence lawyer witnessed the scared kid in the cell and decided to take him on as a client, not realising the gravity of the case. He managed to get Naz the phone call that he is lawfully allowed and the prisoner naturally called his father and explained the situation.

A preview video of episode 2 shows Naz meeting with his parents and telling them what happened. “The Night of” TV series shows the audience how the cops can sometimes bend the rules while building a case. Someone appears to be watching the interaction between the prisoner and his parents, to ascertain the truth.

However, despite the appearance of the apparent innocence of the kid, the evidence against him is staggering. The police don’t have any other lead at the moment, so they will go ahead with the case. The next episode will revisit the crime scene, so more clues may be uncovered.

Box is seen attempting to dissuade defence lawyer Jack Stone (John Turturro) by explaining to him that this would be the “shortest trial in history” and that he would not be making a lot of money off of it. Even though the detective appears confident about the case, Jack finds something amiss.

“Is that why you haven’t charged him?” Jack asks Box. More details about the intriguing case will be revealed in episode 2 of “The Night of” TV series on HBO. The next episode is set to air on July 17 and it is titled “Subtle Beast.”
