'The Night Of': 'Samson and Delilah' review - Theories on who is the murderer
The question of who is the killer in “The Night Of” gets more difficult to answer with every new episode. The TV series has introduced many suspicious characters, and one of them is potentially the murderer.
[Spoiler alert]
Naz (Riz Ahmed) appeared innocent at the beginning, but as more of his back story is revealed it is clear that there are many layers to this complex character. He has a lot of rage in him that could have been unleashed on the poor girl under the influence of drugs on that fateful night.
However, as the lawyers Jack Stone (John Turturro) and Chandra (Amara Karan) piece together their defence and look at some characters to misdirect the jury; it is clear that Box (Bill Camp) hasn’t done a thorough job in the investigation.
The first clue came when John found out that Trevor (J.D. Williams) was lying about being alone. He was with a man who has criminal history that night, and when John tried to speak to this Duane Reade (Charlie Hudson III) in a previous episode of “The Night Of,” the man just took off.
Then there was the mortician who has a problem with women. Chandra decided to speak to him after concluding that he may have followed Naz’s taxi from the gas station. She quickly realised that that was a big mistake. She was clearly shaken after the conversation.
Finally there is the stepdad Don Taylor (Paul Sparks), a gold-digging gym trainer who goes after rich women. Don gets all of his late wife’s fortune with the death of Andrea (Sofia Black-D’Elia). The daughter had refused to give him half of her mother’s money and her exact words were “over my dead body.”
With so much evidence the defence has piled up, it looks like Naz has a solid defence in “The Night Of.” The trial has just begun, so there is still the possibility of the prosecution coming up with some new and incriminating evidence to prove that Naz is the killer.
