‘The Night Of’ season 2 update: Release date, cast, storyline -- what we know so far
After making it big in its debut season, “The Night Of” season 2 is all set to return, although not too soon, according to HBO bosses. The company’s programming head, Casey Bloys, said last week at the Television Critics Association that show creators Steve Zaillian and Richard Price are throwing around ideas.
“I'm hopeful they will land on something but one thing I know about them - if they're not 100 per cent sure about something, they're going to take their time,” Bloys said. “I told them we'll be here when you're ready. I'm hopeful that they're getting an idea they're excited about.”
“The Night Of” season 2, much like it’s previous season, will be based on the British anthology series, “Criminal Justice.” According to New Zealand Herald, the show could either carry on with the established cast or tell a new story altogether. Actors Riz Ahmed and John Turtutto will continue to be in the lead.
A Pakistani-American college student, Naz Khan, takes a few wrong turns with his father’s taxi one night, and ends up with a woman who is stabbed to death and whose manslaughter he is accused of later. Backed by a good lawyer with a bad skin, Naz’ innocence is ultimately proven by the season’s end. This leaves “The Night Of” season 2 with the least bit of possibility that the show will move forward with continuance.
As reported by Den of Geek, “The Night Of” has been a passion project for James Gandolfini, of “The Sopranos” fame. He was originally selected for the role of Naz Khan’s lawyer, John Stone, in “The Night Of” season 1. Later, John Torturro took the role of the eczema-suffering attorney. Riz Ahmed is better known for his role as Rick in the 2014 Hollywood flick, “Nightcrawler.”
The first season is available for viewing in the US on HBO Go. Watch “The Night Of” season 1 in Australia exclusive on Foxtel.
