Nike Releases Hype Video For Women's World Cup
A new ad for the United States Women’s National Team was released by Nike to support them in the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Before the USWNT’s match against Australia on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. ET, Nike Soccer featured the new “American Woman” ad as part of their #NoMaybes campaign. Soccer stars Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and Christen Press were included in the video, which lasted one minute.
In the video, the song “American Woman” by The Who was playing in the background. The female soccer players were shown during their grueling practice sessions, performing drills, kicking the ball and burning out at the end of the workout. They were all wearing their Nike soccer shoes in various colors.
The players were initially presented as bogged down from the tough training but the beat suddenly changed and they found themselves inspired to work harder. The women seemed to push each other to their limits as they prepare for the 2015 Women’s World Cup. They were featured nodding at each other and giving high fives as they finished successful plays and scored goals. There were also shots of the USWNT on the team bus and paying respect to the national banner.
Oregon Live revealed that Morgan, who plays for the Portland Thorns, and Rapinoe, who plays for the University of Portland, filmed their parts in April. Abby Wambach is probably the biggest star in the group, being the highest all-time goal scorer for the USWNT. It will most likely be her last World Cup.
In the end of the commercial, the caption, “Strong Alone. Unstoppable Together.” appeared, suggesting the team’s unified goal of winning the World Cup. Bleacher Report also cited that the women’s team won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics and are eyeing on winning the entire tournament in 2015.
