“Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev has joined siblings Julianne and Derek Hough against their “Dancing with the Stars” co-professional dancer Mark Ballas and television presenter Maria Menounos in a Christmas dance-off.

It’s sort of a tradition for the Hough siblings to take on Maria on a dance-off. It started with a Thanksgiving battle between the Houghs and the Menounos families. With no real declared winner, the two camps continued their online competition, this time with the help of their BFFs Nina and Mark.

And it’s about as epic as it could get.

Their dance sequences were posted on Julianne and Maria’s Instagram accounts. Julianne posted several Instagram videos of their share in the dance battle, then Maria responded with their own version in approximately twice as many videos.

Perhaps Julianne and Derek knew that it was really an unfair dance-off because they, both professional dancers, were pitted against Maria, who was just a one-time “DWTS” contestant. Maria, by the way, placed fourth place with her partner Derek in the 14th season of the show in 2012.

So they asked Nina to join them, while Maria has had Mark, another professional dancer, to level the playing field.

It’s also interesting to note that Nina and Derek could bury the hatchet and join forces for this very special holiday dance-off. For a refresher, the 24-year-old Bulgarian Canadian actress and the 28-year-old dancer and sometime actor were rumoured to have become a couple shortly after Nina split with her “Vampire Diaries” co-star Ian Somerhalder. Their tandem also didn’t work out, and they split after just six weeks together.
