Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) had some fans excited over a romantic relationship between the two "Vampire Diaries" characters. Will Elena Gilbert approve with the Stefan-Caroline or "Steroline" relationship? Actress Nina Dobrev weighs in on the new fan-favorite pairing in the CW TV series.

The 25-year-old Bulgarian-Canadian actress explained in the E!Online report that her character would find the pairing a little strange. "It's the friend code, girlfriend code, but I guess maybe not? She'll deal with that when it comes, but we haven't gotten there. I don't think she's ever noticed anything," Nina Dobrev stated.

Even TVD executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries gave their thoughts on the pairing of Elena's ex-boyfriend and best friend. Ms Plec admitted that she does not want to speculate where Stefan and Caroline would end up but revealed that the bond between the two characters is a result of a very strong friendship. The executive producer continued to tease that Stefan and Caroline are currently in the "friend zone."

According to the other TVD executive producer Caroline Dries, the writers do talk about the Stefan and Caroline pairing but explained that they never do anything on the CW TV series that would throw the two together and be like "OK, have sex!" Ms Dries stated: "That's not how we like to tell stories so if we do it, I will say this, it will feel earned and organic. We will slowly play it, it's not just going to be this random thing that we waste and ruin it. We're very careful about that."

Actor Paul Wesley, who portrays Stefan, admitted that he and co-star Candice Accola filmed a really pleasant scene in Episode 17 titled "Rescue Me." The 31-year-old TVD star described the scene to be "platonic with hints of sexuality or romance" but it still has not reached the level of fruition that he expects.

The "Stelena" or Stefan-Elena fans will still see their favorite on-screen couple in the upcoming Episode 18 titled "Resident Evil." According to the Examiner report, doppelgangers Stefan and Elena will be having romantic dreams about each other and it has something to do with the arrival of the Travellers' leader Markos (Raffi Barsoumian).

Regarding the Stefan-Elena relationship, Paul Wesley shared in the E!Online TV Scoop report that the two characters are comparable to a pendulum swinging where there is no algorithm. There is a burning question on Stefan and Elena's reunion but Mr Wesley responded that the ex-lovers will surely work it out because he does not think that everything happens is permanent.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 returns from a long break with Episode 18 "Resident Evil" on Thursday night, April 17, at 8 pm ET on the CW Network.
