The San Francisco 49ers appear willing to keep Jimmy Garoppolo, despite the two-time Super Bowl champion undergoing rehabilitation for his right shoulder.

Garoppolo underwent surgery on March 8 and is currently undergoing rehab in Los Angeles. As far as seeing the 30-year-old play-caller on the field, that is not expected to happen until possibly the summer.

Hence, the future of the Illinois native is up in the air. There are claims that he could be moving to a new team. But with $25 million across his name, NFL teams are likely wary of taking in Garoppolo since he may not be healthy enough to help their causes.

The possibility of teams pitching a low-ball deal may happen. But other NFL teams are speculated to be possibly waiting for the 49ers to cut the 30-year-old quarterback. If the case is the latter, the Niners are reportedly not planning to do so and would instead keep Garoppolo in the fold until a credible offer comes their way.

No less than Niners general manager John Lynch explained that they have no plans of cutting Garoppolo, NBC Sports reported. If San Francisco cuts the two-time Super Bowl champion, Garoppolo would have the freedom to sign with any NFL team of his choosing.

A team that would make sense would be the Seattle Seahawks. They need a quarterback, and Garoppolo could make sense.

“He’s a good player at a position where they’re hard to find. You certainly just don’t give guys like that away, and we can, I guess, foot the bill if you want to describe it as that. We’ll be patient with that one,” Lynch stated.

With Garoppolo out, the 49ers are expected to turn to Trey Lance. The 21-year-old is considered the future of the Niners, and the past NFL season is deemed a transition while San Francisco continues to bank on Garoppolo.

With no trade partner yet for a potential Garoppolo deal, the athlete will remain in San Francisco for now. However, pundits do not foresee him staying with the Niners for the whole 2022-23 NFL season.
