Nintendo NX may still have new developments in the pipeline, new trademark finding hints at possible feature
Even though it’s already halfway through the year, Nintendo has still yet to give specifics on what it plans to do for the Nintendo NX. As such, the only clues that fans get are from snippets of what some Nintendo personalities are giving out.
Among these is a new interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s household name for Zelda and Super Mario franchises. Speaking with the Associated Press, Miyamoto may have hinted a new feature for the device that the company may be working on.
“In terms of the NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on. That’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies,” said Miyamoto to Associated Press.
Without providing any details as to what this idea may be about, Miyamoto did hint that it might be more than just advanced technologies, since that would have been much easier and quicker to roll out.
One possible feature that has been rumoured for the Nintendo NX is the use of game cartridges. While Nintendo has not really delved on the topic, there was a new and recently sighted patent from the US trademark office that suggests one feature for an expected game on the console.
Forbes reported that the “Zelda: Breath of Wild” intended for Nintendo is said to have a game cartridge. Considering that the only other platform that it is releasing in is the Wii U—which does not require cartridges—then it is possible that the Nintendo NX will have the specific feature.
The idea of bringing back the game cartridge may actually not necessarily bring back the old NES cartridge. If the idea that Miyamoto was hinting at may be related to this new finding, then it’s impossible that the company is developing a better way to make use of it.
The Nintendo NX is expected to launch sometime in March 2017. A reveal of the device is slated for a later date this year.
