No iPhone 5S? A photo full of iPhone boxes has been making buzz on the internet, hinting Apple’s new, cheap iPhone is underway. Posted by Chinese Web site, WeiPhone.com, the photo showed a large bucketful of plastic phones with “iPhone5C” printed on their sides.

It came amidst reports that Apple is coming out with low-cost iPhones, highly anticipated by anyone who wants to enjoy its features at a good deal.

What’s catching everyone’s eyes is the “iPhone5C” printed on the side of the phones in the bucket. This has raised speculations of what “C” could really stand for. Apple is not new to labeling its products as such, judging by the release of its “S” version, which impressed with “relatively minor tweaks when compared to the full-brown product, with incremented number.”

But What Could “C” Really Stand For?

1. Coloured
Early this month, another Web site, called No Where Else, has discovered and posted a set of iPhone covers it claimed as back cases of a plastic iPhone. Coming out in bright yellow-gold, red and green, these iPhone back covers came in “fluorescent colours" inspired in the 1980s.

The colour scheme could also be Apple’s move to counter and/or follow its biggest competitor, Samsung, and its plans to come out with cheaper phones in a range of colors.

“Apple plans to dress up the cheaper phone in a range of 5-6 colours to differentiate it from the more expensive model that has traditionally come only in black and white,” a report by Reuters was cited by Financial Review.

2. Chinese Copy
If the iPhones coming out were real “knock-offs,” it then confirms earlier reports that it’s being made by companies in China and “C” stands for (C)hinese (C)opy. Though there were other reports that South Korea was also cooking up low-cost iPhone versions, the fact that the photo was leaked by a (C)hinese Web site, even strengthened rumors that China is creating knock-offs, low-cost iPhones.

3. Cheap
The news (rumors) that (C)heap iPhones were coming out have been making the rounds since early this year and further strengthened by Apple’s announcement last June 2013 (following Samsung’s).

The rumors of low-(C)ost iPhones, now known as “iPhone5C,” albeit a shocking one, never died since Apple recorded increase in its sale in the second quarter of this year.

The increase was attributed to the popularity of iPhone, and Apple reportedly sold 31.2 million units during the recent quarter - - a far increase to its sales in the same period of last year which was recorded only at 26 million.

The move for low-cost, cheap iPhones, according to analysts, was Apple’s response to increase in demand for iPhone and its hopes to reach low- to middle-income consumers.
