We may not see American Idol to return for its 12th season since Steven Tyler confirmed that he will be leaving his position as judge in the famous talent search.

The frontman of rock band Aerosmith has been a judge for the past two seasons alongside Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson.

According to TMZ, Steven Tyler wrote in his statement, "After some long ... hard ... thoughts ... I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit."

"I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back - but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I've got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band," the charismatic singer quickly added.

The 64-year-old rocker was referring to a scene from the film Fatal Attraction - in which a deranged woman kills her lover's daughter's pet rabbit.

Tyler's decision to leave the show came after his co-judge Jennifer Lopez said that she was not sure if she will be back for the next season.

However, the rockstar said that he loved every minute of his time on American Idol. Now, he wants to be focused with his career as a musician.

Steven went on to add that Aerosmith will release a new album on November 6, Music from Another Dimension. It will be the American rock band's 15th studio album.

Fox president of alternative entertainment Mike Darnell said in a statement, "It's been a tremendous honour to have Steven - one of the most prolific artists in the world - on 'American Idol' for the past two seasons. 'He's been a terrific judge, a true friend and great mentor to everyone involved with the show, and we know he'll continue to be a huge inspiration to 'Idol' hopefuls for years to come."

Last season, American Idol hailed Phillip Phillips as the winner beating 16-year-old songstress Jessica Sanchez.
