Nokia Australia confirmed that it will not release its new smartphone PureView 808 in the land down under.

In its Facebook page, Finnish company Nokia posted that no PureView 808 will be coming to Australia and it will focus on Windows phones instead for the Australian market.

Nokia decided to release the PureView 808 in selected countries. It thinks that Windows phones are more apt in the Australian market. However, Nokia said that Aussies will see the integration of PureView's imaging technology in future products.

It was reported that Nokia PureView 808 is headed to Mexico and will be launched in the end of May or the beginning of June. The device will not be released in the United States as well.

Nokia Pureview 808 is the latest smartphone packed with 41-megapixel and run by Symbian Belle OS. It also uses Carl Zeiss optics. PureView imaging technology delivers high image quality, lossless zoom, and improved low light performance.

This disappointed some Australians who have been anticipating the launch of the product. This followed the immense disappointment of some Nokia users when the company announced that it will not be updating the Nokia N8 to the latest Symbian platform when the update was released in other parts of the world.

The PureView was first unveiled in the Mobile World Congress last February 27, 2012. It was awarded with "Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet" at Mobile World Congress 2012, and the award for Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from the Technical Image Press Association.
