Nokia's new flagship smartphones have reached the Indian shores, opening up another important front for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, which have been revving up the Finnish firm's global mobile phone thrust.

Brushing aside supply concern that hampers the fluid market availability of the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920, Nokia said the handset, along with the Lumia 820, will begin retailing to selected Indian stores across the country.

And by early February, Nokia will push through for the mass availability the entry-level Lumia 620, marking the handset's market debut. The phone maker has earlier indicated that the low-priced 620 will first be seen in emerging markets like China and India then it will be rolled out to Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.

The budget smartphone is also set for Canadian and European release, Nokia assured, keeping close on its overall strategy of reaching the markets that it deemed matter most for its recovery agenda.

Blog report suggested that the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are priced $US700 and $US500 respectively, quite high for devices that are pressured to compete with affordable Android smartphones, which have been the dominant gadgets in the past year.

Nokia, however, has maintained a good grip on the Indian market, which is a reminder that the brand once held unfettered sway prior to the arrival of Apple's iPhone and Android smartphones.

The company, according to analysts, is banking on the likelihood that Indian consumers satisfied with its Asha series, Nokia's stripped-down smartphones that are powered by its Symbian operating system, will migrate to its new offerings on new platform.

The same tact is in play in China, where Nokia saw encouraging sales numbers for the initial release of its Lumia smartphone lines, headlined by the Lumia 920.

But the Nokia surge, analysts noted, will likely encounter stiff competitions in the months and quarters ahead. The likes of HTC M7, Samsung Galaxy S4 and even a likely early iPhone refresh by the first half of 2013 have generated monstrous interests that Nokia needs to deal with.

To counter this formidable handset, Nokia is reported to be currently working on a Lumia 920 replacement that will shed the chunky built, opting this time for an aluminium-covered body to achieve a sleeker and lighter casing.

This Nokia phone will reportedly assume the model name Catwalk. It will remain on the WP8 platform by Microsoft.
