Nokia officially unveiled the Nokia Lumia 1520 at the October 2013 Nokia World event held in Abu Dhabi. Product news and reviews Web site Ars Technica took the Windows Phone phablet on different level of hands-on review with the Mach 0.6 13,000 feet jet ride over Texas to test the new Nokia device's video quality and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) feature.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 20MP rear-facing camera with PureView technology, the matching Carl Zeiss optics found in the Nokia Lumia 10210 and the Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) feature. How did the airborne hands-on review on the Nokia phablet go? The report claims the device did pretty well.

A hands-on review video can be seen in the Ars Technica report where they conducted the extreme Nokia Lumia 1520 test on a partially overcast but still bright day. Lee Hutchinson's review reads: "The Lumia 1520 functioned quite amiably at 13,000 feet in the backseat of the little jet. The screen was actually quite easy to see, even through sunglasses and in full daylight."

Mr Hutchinson decided to set the Nokia Lumia 1520 in full auto mode during the entire flight and the device's camera was able to adjust to its own exposure settings. The hands-on review further reads: "Still, even though I was shooting handheld from the backseat of a jet trainer, the 1520's image stabilization did a great job of keeping away jitter. The overall image quality isn't quite up to the Lumia 1020's uber-camera, but it captured some awesome footage out of the Gnat's canopy."

Another impression noted in the hands-on review is the size and heaviness of the Nokia Lumia 1520 Windows Phone phablet. "It's bigger in every dimension than the Galaxy Note 3, and it's heavier, too-in fact, I had a Galaxy Note II owner play with our review 1520 for a few minutes, and his parting comment was along the lines of 'Man, this is just a big-ass phone'," Mr Hutchinson wrote.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the first Windows Phone phablet from the Finnish smartphone manufacturer and the device boasts of 6-inch Full HD ClearBlack screen display having a 1920x1080p resolution, the power of a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, wireless charging feature and 3400mAh non-removable battery.

Other features and specs included in the Windows Phone phablet are the Microsoft Office, Nokia Music and Camera with superior settings and imaging features and the 16GB internal memory storage capacity that can be expanded up to 32GB through the available microSD card slot.
