Nokia Lumia 900 Plagued with Connectivity Issues
Nokia Oyj, the Finland-based phone manufacturer, has rolled out in key markets that Nokia Lumia 900. Barely reaching a week after it was launched last Easter Sunday; users are now facing issues with their new Windows Phone.
Nokia immediately acknowledged this problem stating that the Nokia Lumia 900 has a "memory management issue" and that a fix is already on the way and would be available "on or around 16 April". The software bug was said to be the reason behind the loss of data connection in some Nokia Lumia 900 units. Nokia customers who want to have their update immediately could opt to trade in their units for another model that is already running the software fix. As a way to compensate with this issue, Nokia is now offering affected users of Nokia Lumia 900 who purchases the mobile device until 21 April a US$100 credit on their AT&T bill.
Nokia further explained this unfortunate situation through their blog post. Here is an excerpt from the company's blog post:
However, soon after this flagship device began selling, we identified a software issue. In short, a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity. This issue is purely in the phone software, and is not related to either phone hardware or the network itself. As a proactive and prudent measure, we decided to take immediate action. We have identified the issue, and have developed a solution.
Nokia Lumia 900 was supposedly the start of a new beginning both for Nokia and Windows Phone as it is attempting to entice customers to try this kind of OS as opposed to the dominant players in the smartphone market which is Apple iOS and Google's Android. This sudden issue during the early stages of the Nokia 900 Lumia launch could pose as a big glitch for Nokia and Microsoft. Carolina Milanesi from the research firm Gartner remarked on this incident stating ""It's like they stalled their engine when everybody is looking at them at the start of their race."
There is still no concrete way to determine if this issue had a negative effect for Nokia Lumia 900 but if the company would not live out to its promised "fix schedule" then this would surely have an impact to the perception of people regarding Nokia and Microsoft's Windows Phone.
