Thanks to the Windows OS, Swedish telecom firm Nokia is experiencing a second wind. Reports said that Nokia has received more than 2.5 million orders for the Lumia 920 unit worldwide. This volume of orders is more than the entire line up of Lumia family sold in the third quarter of 2012.

However, it is not just Nokia but also other phone firms which are using this OS.

Production of Windows Mobile devices actually began in 2004 and was ultimately released as Windows Phone in 2009. On February 11, 2011, Nokia and Microsoft announced their partnership which made Windows as the primary operating system for Nokia, creating the third OS in the mobile devices competing with Android and iOS.

HTC, Huawei and Samsung have joined the Windows Phone battle by releasing their versions of Windows smartphones.

Nokia Lumia 920

Let's begin with the Lumia 920 from Nokia which made a good impression as the most powerful Windows Phone yet. It has 4.5" of screen size with 1280x768 display resolution, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and weighs 185 grams.

The great things about this Windows Phone are the Carl Zeiss optics and PureView technology which results in outstanding camera captures compared to other Windows phones, wireless charging, and high sensitive screen response even with the gloves on.

Nokia Lumia 920 may be thick and heavy, but it defines power and richness as a Windows Phone.

HTC Windows 8X

HTC, well-known for Android smartphones like the One X and Droid DNA, has created the Windows 8X for Windows phone users.

The Windows 8X has 4.3" of screen size, 720x1280 display resolution and also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with a weight of 130 grams.

The advantage of Windows 8X is its design which is always found in HTC devices, processor speed, and network stability, including great call quality, making this Windows Phone a good choice as well.

Samsung ATIV S

ATIV S is expected to be released in December 2012 as part of the ATIV line of Windows 8 devices from Samsung. It has 4.8" screen size, 720x1280 display resolution with Super AMOLED and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and weighs 135 grams

It has powerful specs including the RAM and its processor but was mainly designed to match up with ATIV family for Windows 8. Since most Samsung devices are Android, the ATIV S will be challenged by the Nokia Lumia 920.

Huawei Ascend W3

Huawei mobile devices are now growing and Ascend W3 is expected to be released by 2013. Rumours speculate that this new Windows 8 smartphone has 4.5" of screen size, 720x1280 display resolution and has a thickness of 0.39 inches.

So far, Huawei mobile devices have price point advantages over its competitors which provide consumers a good deal that attempt to balance the cost and the benefit of high-end smartphones.

One good indicator of the Nokia Lumia 920's edge is that this model was sold out on Black Friday in the U.S. by midday, reported Trip Chowdhry, managing director of Equity Research at Global Equities Research.
