Nominations for MTV's Movie of the Year Award: From ‘12 Years a Slave’ to ‘The Hunger Games’
The awards fever is still on as MTV announced the movies included in their Movie of the Year award for their MTV Movie Awards this coming April 2014. The movies included in the line-up are handpicked by the produces and executives of MTV and those who will win will get the golden popcorn. The date is set on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Nokia Theatre with host Conan O'Brien.
Fans and the rest of the general public are the ones who are in control of deciding the winners. One may only need to visit the official site of MTV in order to cast a vote. Those who are nominated for the golden popcorn may not entirely be the same as the Oscars line-up since the target population of the music channel are adolescents, teens, and young adults.
The nominees for Movie of the Year are:
- "12 Years a Slave"
- "American Hustle"
- "The Wolf of Wall Street"
- "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"
- "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"
The movies "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle" are in the lead with several nominations but "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is hot on their backs, according to the CBS News. The 2013 Movie of the Year award went to "The Avengers" and many are waiting for the movie that will be lucky enough to get the statue of the golden popcorn.
Voting is now and fans may support their favourite movies and actors by visiting MTV. The award show last 2013 had good and bad reviews though, especially with the previous host, Rebel Wilson. Those who critic the award show believe that the winners should not be decided by the voting public since it is left to younger generations who are being influenced by pop culture.
However, many believe that there still might be a chance that it will get better since Conan is hosting the show. Conan's last hosting gig this big was the 2006 Emmys and many liked the way the comedian hosted the said award show. Fans will have the chance to vote for various categories up to April 12 only but they may still continue voting during the show for the Movie of the year award.
