Non-Stop Daily Flight from Sydney to Toronto to Start on Dec 18, Business Leaders Delighted
Air Canada offered a non-stop flight from Sydney to Toronto on a daily basis and the Cape Breton business community loves it.
Air Canada Vice-President Kevin Howlett informed the Sydney and Area Board of Trade that the new flight is going to be operational from Dec 18. The flight was first declared in August, the Cape Breton Post reports. The announcement was made on Tuesday, Dec 10.
Air Canada is going to offer the service from J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport to the central hub of Canada. Mr Howlett has said that the service is believed to be supported by the local economy. Air Canada is optimistic about the service being instrumental for bringing in further developments and investment opportunities which will boost the local business, he said. Airport's board Chairman Doug Peach, on the other hand, said that the decision to run such a service is a significant move in the community growth as well as their airport.
It is going to be an early morning flight consisting of 50 seats only to begin with. The flight will leave Sydney to reach Toronto non-stop. It is expected to be back to Cape Breton no later than the suppertime. Mr Howlett further said that the flight makes it possible for Sydney being just a single stop away from the Toronto business hub.
The Board of Trade's Executive Director Adrian White seems quite contented with the decision. He said that the decision was a reflection of the company's confidence in offering a long-term service. Destination Cape Breton CEO Mary Tulle also seems quite happy with the new service. She described the service as something that will reap benefits for many years in the coming future.
Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke, on the other hand, believes that such a service can only add to the growth of the economy. According to him, Sydney has the potential to become one major port with the help of such a service.
