Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire will once again step inside the ring to take on a familiar face in Vic Darchinyan on Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Donaire, coming off his worst loss of his career at the hands of Guillermo Rigondeaux, is rearing to go toe-to-toe with the man he flattened several years ago.

Darchinyan was an IBF Flyweight champion and one of the fearsome pound-for-pound fighters when he first met an up-and-coming Donaire in their memorable 2007 bout.

The Armenian was the heavy favorite in the fight, but the Filipino flash pulled off a stunner after landing a lethal left hook that brought Darchinyan down for the first time in his career.

The victory officially introduced Donaire as one of the most exciting young boxers in the present era while allowed him to capture more belts in at least three more divisions.

However, everything went wrong for Donaire when he faced a purist boxer in Rigondeaux in their super bantamweight unification showdown last April in New York City.

For the first time in his boxing career, Donaire found himself schooled by a faster and more skillful Rigondeaux through 12 rounds. Yet, the Filipino flash is determined to get his career back on tract, starting it by training three consecutive weeks at Robert Garcia's Boxing Academy in Oxnard, California.

"I'm trying to bring youth back into my boxing style," Donaire said. He also broke tradition this time by training three straight weeks in Robert Garcia's Oxnard gym.

In his latest showdown with Darchinyan, Donaire promised to bring the kind of youthful exuberance he had the first time he faces the Armenian knockout artist.

"I have been trying to recall how I became a world champion and the process of (doing) it," Donaire was quoted in a transcript of tele-conference call via Philippine Inquirer. "The mentality and the desire, we are trying to bring all that out."

On the other hand, Darchinyan wanted to prove everybody that Donaire's 2007 victory was only a fluke and he's ready to destroy his former conqueror once and for all.

"I know personally that Nonito is a good man," Darchinyan was quoted by BoxingScene.com via Phil Inquirer. "But his skills and power is not enough for a pound-for-pound king. I think he was exposed in his loss to Rigondeaux."

Saturday's fight card also featured the WBO Super Featherweight title clash between Rocky Martinez (27-1-2, 16 KOs) and undefeated Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KOs).
