North West Sydney Shocked at Underground Fuel Tank Explosion [BREAKING NEWS]
A glass explosion left several homes damaged and three people wounded when an underground fuel tank exploded at Blaxland Road in Eastwood at 12:30 pm, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Residents called triple-0 to report the blast which shattered their windows, including several buildings in the area.
The Fire and Rescue NSW immediately rushed to the scene where it was found out that a number of workmen were trying to remove an underground fuel tank when it exploded.
"We weren't quite sure what it was, " said Jack Sumner who was in a building near the explosion.
‘‘We thought someone had bumped into one of our windows, they really shook. There are workmen next door, and we thought something serious may have happened, so it was fairly substantial.
Dental receptionist Sheree Madden, who is working at Blaxland Road, told ABC News, "[Our building] did shake quite a bit but nothing was damaged."
The patients are now being treated at the Royal North Shore Hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, some people are believed to be suffering from shock.
Authorities are now at the scene to investigate the explosion.
This is a developing story.
