Not-So Funny Viral Meme: FBI Gets Involved, Did Reddit Get a Murder Confession or a Bad Joke? [PHOTO]
"Confession Bear" funny memes are typically self-deprecating if not self-indulgent declarations by active social media users. Reddit is one of the best go-to places for such memes, with Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter following close behind. Over the weekend, a controversial "murder confession" got the Redditors' attention, and the FBI reportedly received a report on the matter.
The "Confession Bear" is only one among several "Advice Animal" memes, which are usually done to express thoughts or simply make fun of anything under the sun. The statements are accompanied by a photo of what appears to be an embarrassed yet unapologetic bear.
The controversial post reads: "My sister had an abusive meth addict boyfriend." The second part says: "I killed him with his own drugs while he was unconscious and they ruled it as an overdose." (See accompanying image, as published by Epoch Times.)
Some users were alarmed by the post, while many others remained on the skeptical side. Who knows who's saying the truth on the internet these days? Still, some Tumblr users picked up the meme and called it, "Confession Bear goes EXTREME."
Redditor Naratto, who posted the meme, got 10,200 upvotes and 8,800 downvotes for his confession, according to Newmediarockstars.com. After sparking some serious negative comments, the user deleted the "murder" meme, and wrote another one that says: "If you joke about murder on Reddit without a throw away account; you're gonna have a bad time."
Some Redditors were not content to just sit down and let Naratto have his way. They hacked the user's account and exposed personal facts about him on the forum. Reports also indicate the FBI has been tipped off about the post.
"Redditors have since turned him in to the FBI's online tip service, providing them with the suspect's full name, address, military involvement and place of employment," reports Newmediarockstars.
Naratto was not kidding when he posted about having "a bad time." But he had the bad time coming. Was it a real confession, or another social media experiment gone wrong?
