As fans reminisced the great love story of "The Notebook" on its 10th anniversary, its movie director recently revealed that stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams had huge fight on set during that time.

In an interview with VH1, Director Nick Cassavetes said contrary to their love story in the film and eventually real-life romance, Gosling and McAdams were far from being friendly to each other while making the movie to the point that Gosling wanted to kick McAdams off the set.

"Maybe I'm not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there's 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, "Nick come here." And he's doing a scene with Rachel and he said, "Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?" I said, "What?" He says, "I can't. I can't do it with her. I'm just not getting anything from this," the director cited.

Both stars seemed to follow their on-screen characters Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton in their pattern of passionately arguing and falling in love. Good thing, the film was saved through the impromptu therapy session that the director initiated.

Director Cassavetes added they went into a room with the producer and the pair started screaming and yelling at each other.

After the session the 33-year-old actor respected the 35-year-old actress for standing up her character.

The actress was happy to get that out in the open. Though the rest of the film was not smooth-sailing, the director said it was smoother sailing.

He also revealed that with the fiery relationship and screaming matches in the film, there was a scene at the end that Gosling improvised one of the lines.

"The Notebook" hit the cinemas in 2004. Although Gosling and McAdams had tension during the set, the film led to the pair's real-life relationship. The couple dated on and off from 2005 before they split in 2007.
