Novak Djokovic Retains No. 1 Rank In ATP World Rankings
With a total of 12,150 points, Novak Djokovic continues his reign on top of the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Rankings. The 27-year-old Serbian athlete has held the position since July.
Djokovic started his 2014 season as World No. 2. He began his season at the 2014 Australian Open, where he reached the semifinals and lost to ensuing winner Stanislas Wawrinka. After that, Djokovic's next tournament was at the Dubai Open. He also reached the semifinals of the outdoor hard court tournament before losing to eventual winner Roger Federer.
Djokovic avenged his loss to Federer in his next tournament and won his first title at the 2014 Indian Wells. He won his second title, beating then World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, in the finale of the 2014 Miami Open.
Djokovic's succeeding tournaments were the outdoor clay events at Monaco, Rome, and France. He won his third title in Rome. Next up for Djokovic was Roland Garros, where he lost to Nadal. Djokovic won his fourth title at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships after he beat Federer in the finale of the grass court tournament.
Playing his first tournament since reaching the semifinals of the US Open, Djokovic will face Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round in Beijing. He is looking to win his fifth China Open trophy. He boasts a perfect record of 19-0 in the history of his participation in the said tournament. According to Djokovic via ATP's official website, he enjoys playing in China because of the fans that come to support him. "I have a big fan club here, teenagers, especially, who come and support me, give me presents every day," Djokovic said. "That's something that makes me feel very special and encourages me to play my best tennis here," he added.
Djokovic's book "Serve To Win" has recently been made available in China. He posted a snap of him with fans who bought the book on Facebook on Sept. 29. "My book 'Serve to Win' is now available in China, these #nolefams fans came for a signature, have you read my book," he captioned the photo.
