New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell announced Tuesday new bus and train services for Sydney commuters beginning Oct. 23.

The western line will get 20 extra services, the Blue Mountain Services will have eight extra weekend services, the northern line will get five more and the eastern suburbs and Illawarra line will have 15 more extra services.

There would also be 91 new NightRide bus services for Sydney residents who come home late from work.

""New peak rail services for commuters who use the western line will give passengers more travel options and deliver more capacity," O'Farrell said.

Beginning Oct. 24 there would also be 165 more ferry services. This includes restoration of 140 services to the North Shore slashed by the state's previous Labor government, and the introduction of 25 new services on the Parramatta River.

NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklain said the extra transport services would benefit Sydney travelers, particularly those who move around during peak hours, and also families, students and pensioners who travel during off-peak hours and late at night.

She added schools and other educational institutions, hospitals, disability groups, local councils and consumer groups have been informed of the timetable changes so they can plan ahead their trips.
