More than a thousand residents were ordered to evacuate due to severe NSW floods. Around 70 residents and 17 properties were assisted by the State Emergency Service (SES) during the evacuation.

Overnight, SES received 108 calls from people seeking for help. Most calls were from Illawarra and Wollongong region.

The Princess Highway was closed by authorities isolating around 367 people in an area close to Towamba and about 900 in Cooma.

The evacuation has also forced 600 residents in Goulburn and 60 in Cowra to move out.

In the south of Cowra, 15 residents and 2 children were saved from their homes and vehicles stranded by the flood.

SES reported to 23 houses in Canowindra throughout the night for rescue operations.

According to Dave Owen, SES spokesman, 50 mm of rain poured over the last 6 to 10 hours. Approximately 75% of NSW had already been severely impacted by the continuous rainfall.

From 9 a.m. yesterday until 6 a.m. today, Foxground received 106 mm of rain, Gouburn with 62 mm, Albury with 97 mm and Cooma with 40 mm.

SES is organizing personnel and preparing more equipment and 30,000 sandbags for flooded areas.

Over 94% of the Warragamba Dam is already filled with water. With a capacity of 127,000 megalitres of water, authorities predict the dam to spill anytime today.

Overflowing water from the dam will add pressure to Nepean and Murrumbidgee rivers, which have already swollen due to the constant rain.

Some roadways in Sydney and across NSW were closed today at 9:40 a.m. Motorists are advised by the NSW Transport Management Center to contact the local council about the closures of local roads.
