The Bali holiday of a NSW Central Coast teenager turned into a tragedy when he accidentally died upon touching a live wire outside a bar and grill in Kuta beach.

Jake, 18, died instantly when he touched a neon sign attached to an electricity pole in a portion of the Legian street under repair on Saturday morning.

The victim, a first-time Bali tourist celebrating his graduation from Gosford High School, was walking with his friends around 3 a.m. when the tragedy happened.

According to Kuta district police chief Gede Ganefo, Flannery avoided construction works blocking the way and passed through piles of concrete slabs where the electrified signage was situated.

Australian lifeguards in the accident scene tried to revive Flannery to no avail. People then rushed him to the hospital on a taxi.
Flannery's family were home at at Bateau Bay when they learned the news. They have yet to decide if they will travel to Bali, though Australian consular staff are helping them arrange the return of their son's body home.

"He's just such a good kid. He's a lovely kid with everyone," she said. "He was very close with his sisters. They had a wonderful relationship. We had a very close family," said Sheryl Flannery, Jake's mother, according to Daily Telegraph.

Aside from Sheryl, Jake left behind his father Colin and siblings April, 22, Ellissa, 20, and Molly, 16.

Jake arrived in Bali Wednesday. His last words to his family was a Facebook message saying he was having a great time.

Flannery's friends Tiarne Mitchell and Emily Graham described the victim as "funny" and "nice." His uncle, Peter Flannery, described him to the Daily Telegraph: "He was just a fantastic guy. He was really good academically, in creative arts and at sport as well, he was a very good hockey player."

The parents are not suing anyone for the accident but local police are investigating.
