New Zealand, which had been Guinness' world record holder for collective nude bathing since December 30, 2012, was nabbed of its title by Spain, particularly at the El Playazo beach in the Spanish town of Vera.

It was at the Midway Beach in Gisborne where the record was held in 2012.

According to a report from the Associated Press, there were 729 people who participated in the event held at the Spanish town of Vera as compared to 506 numbers of participants at the Midway Beach in 2012.

The event at Vera had the slogan "The World's Biggest Strip-off." It was sponsored by the Vera City Hall together with the Spanish Naturism Federation. By noon time, El Playazo beach was already filled with participants counted at the entrance of the beach. They were divided into groups of 50 and tickets were distributed together with their registration numbers.

Juan de la Cruz, Vera's mayoral adviser, told the Associated Press that the town of Vera aimed for the Guinness world title for collective nude bathing primarily to improve the town's tourism image into the international level as centre for naturism or nudity.

According to Yareah magazine, Vera is a beautiful town snuggled in Almeria, Spain, within close distance to the Mediterranean Sea. This favorable location gave the town of Vera its beautiful beaches famous among tourists from all over the globe, especially those fond of swimming naked. To attend to the growing influx of nude bathers, the town has resorts like Natsun, La Manera, Bahia de Vera and Vera Natura where naturism was all-out permitted. A total of two kilometers of the beach area was reserved for naturists or nude bathers.

Mayor Jose Carmelo said that he was more than happy to see 729 participants while the town was only expecting 600 people to participate in the event. Obviously, nude bathers exceeded that expectation.

It looked like that the town of Vera is all out against New Zealand as it simultaneously launched another event called the Nudist Race in July 20, 2013 covering 3.1 km route through the streets of Vera. Benefits from the event will go to a charitable institution.

Kiwis await for New Zealand's next move to reclaim the title from Spain.
