NYC Nude Photography Exhibit: Under My Skin Contemporary Photography Exhibit (NSFW)
"The exhibition reflects how we are currently representing the nude through the photo medium," curator, Getty Research Institute independent scholar and internationally-renowned artist Mona Kuhn told Le Journal de la Photographie in an interview.
"It is a collection of nudes in contemporary photography, with works created mostly in the last five years."
Contemporary interpretations of the naked body on display include nudes taken from the computer screen, nude self portraits and body manipulations.
The exhibit that exposes how the unclothed body is revealed in the 21st century begs the question of whether or not it is still the desired body.
It displays the interesting interpretations of a personal subject which nonetheless ignites curiosity to say the least.
Kuhn comfortably sees nudity as an art. She even regards the subject as her "second skin."
She has been focused on studying the human body for the past ten years. Her explorations of the subject enabled her to produce creative works of art that stir up a "sense of intimacy and sensuality, while being at once classical and contemporary".
"Trends in art come and go, but the Nude remains a canon of high art, like a shadow we cannot jump away from," she said.
Artworks of around 20 artists from New York, Los Angeles, London, Korea, Mexico, and China are on display as they stripped out all hesitations to comfortably render the human body in its naked form.
The exhibit runs from June 20-27 at the Flowers Gallery in New York City.
