Tom Cruise’s Oblivion Tops Aussie Box Office
Oblivion, a scientology documentary? After losing his wife, Katie Holmes while filming Oblivion in Iceland, Tom Cruise has won at the box office when the same film he was working on when he was blindsided in his divorce, has reportedly topped the box office in Australia in its opening weekend.
For the first time since the last quarter of 2011, Tom Cruise has again dominated in the box office with the 2013 sci-fi, Oblivion where he plays a repairman, tasked to look after the last of the assets of the earth. Raking an estimated $3.3 million at the Aussie box office over the weekend. The Herald Sun is reporting that the film directed by Joseph Kosinski enjoyed a $60-million opening weekend in some of the theaters outside of the United States.
The film is set to be released in the U.S. on April 19 and it has been receiving rave reviews following its outstanding performance at the box office in its opening weekend. Cruise co-stars with equally talented Hollywood stars, Morgan Freeman, and A-list actress, Melissa Leo. Joining them are Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough and David Madison, among others.
The last time Cruise’s project raked millions in the Aussie box office was recorded in December 2011 with his latest sequel of hit film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, that reportedly attracted audience and earned about $17.6 million.
Katie Holme’s ex-husband has had a slew of films that bombed in the box office before hitting it big with Mission Impossible and Oblivion. These included the much-talked about musical comedy, Rock of Ages ($3.5 million) and Jack Reacher ($8.7 million.)
Oblivion marks one of the most memorable films for Tom Cruise since he was still working on it when he heard - - on the news - - that Katie Holmes had filed a divorce in New York City and was claiming full custody for their kid, Suri.
Oblivion opens in the U.S. on April 19. Check out the official trailer of the sci-fi film, Oblivion.
