October Is ‘Zombie Preparedness Month’ In Arkansas
According to a statement, the popularity of zombie-related movies or TV shows, like "The Walking Dead," has reportedly spurred Arkansas to come up with the "Zombie Preparedness Month." With its "If you're prepared for zombies, you're prepared for anything" theme, the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) aims to educate Kansans on how to prepare for any kind of emergencies or natural events, may they be zombie-related or not.
Arkansas Governor Sam Brownback will reportedly formalize the declaration on Sept. 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the Governor's Ceremonial Office in the Kansas Statehouse.
KDEM Deputy Director Angee Morgan clarified in the statement why the idea for a "Zombie Preparedness Month" was formed. She claimed it's "an engaging way to get people on board with emergency preparedness."
Devan Tucking-Strickler, identified by Inquisitr as a human services officer for KDEM, also approves of the proclamation. There has reportedly been a great turnout in terms of attendance and education in the previous zombie preparedness events in Arkansas.
"This is a fun and low-stress way to get families involved, and past turnouts have proven it to be effective," he said.
"If you're equipped to handle the zombie apocalypse then you're prepared for tornadoes, severe storms, fire and any other natural disaster Kansas usually faces," Devan added.
This is not the first time Arkansas has declared October as "Zombie Preparedness Month." Emergency Management also reported on the event three years back in 2011. Devan Tucking-Strickler claimed the event is a way "to get people more excited about disaster preparedness." Furthermore, Oct. 29 was reportedly declared as "Zombie Preparedness Day." A safety fair was celebrated to kick off the day's event.
Arkansas has definitely taken the fun in learning to a whole new level. Devan claimed people are enjoying the idea of zombies. Participants were reported to have built their own disaster kits and made their disaster plans. Arkansas encourages its residents to learn more about "Zombie Preparedness Month" by attending an educational event. The event will reportedly take place on Oct. 25 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Crestview Shelter House in Topeka.
