Oculus Rift: Getting There with Potential EA Games Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age 3
Virtual reality is now really much closer for gaming, as reports of EA tapping the Oculus Rift, the successful VR headset, for its Frostbite engine.
According to The Examiner, this means new titles, which are really in the works in EA, including Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age 3, may now also include the VR platform. The Frostbite engine is also behind the Mass Effect series game.
Earlier this year, the Oculus Rift has already integrated the Unreal Engine 3 graphics in a seamless manner in terms of interaction, though there is time for improvement before public consumption, reports VentureBeat.
It is also a huge development in VR gaming that Oculus Rift is actually a VR headset that is in sync with the wearer's movement. VentureBeat adds that the common denominator of motion sickness in most VR prototypes was addressed with the Oculus Rift.
The Verge also reports that the first wave of Oculus Rift developer kits have also been released, which can be the groundbreaking news in gaming for the year, if all goes well.
It is probably because of all this that the speculation of EA trying to bring the Frostbite engine to the VR device. While IGN reports that there are no confirmations about any plans about working with Oculus Rift's device anytime soon, Frostbite lead Frank Vitz did confirm a batch of developer kits heading their way.
And if that's not enough of an assurance, The Verge indicates the immense interest that EA has in working with VR.
"I am really eager to see how the Oculus Rift works with Frostbite," said Vitz to The Verge. "There are multiple titles in the works that would be awesome with the Rift."
If those titles happen to be Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age 3, only the coming months and progress will be able to tell.
