Official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmware Update for Sony Xperia J Now Available for Download!
Official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware is now available to owners of Sony Xperia J and it includes the latest update for the device. The official firmware update features Google Now service and Project Butter for smoother and buttery-fluid user interface.
Official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Firmware
Sony Mobile released a new version of firmware for the Xperia J - the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The latest available software from Sony has a build version of 11.2.A.0.31 and was released in May 29, 2013.
Included in the new software update is the Google Now service and user experience enhancer Project Butter which are both exclusive in Android Jelly Bean version. In addition, Sony also included new features and upgrades for Xperia J.
- Extended Standby time for improved battery life: The feature saves more battery by preventing data traffic when the screen is off.
- Easier access to commonly used settings with the Quick Settings feature found in the notifications bar: Tap toggles on the Quick Settings for easy enabling or disabling certain functionalities.
- Sony Select service replaces "Recommender" which recommends apps, games and music compatible or applicable on the device or user's preferences.
How to Update your Sony Xperia J
Like many other Xperia smartphones, you can update your handset using Over-the-Air procedure or by launching Sony PC Companion on your computer. Depending on the date of purchase, your Sony Xperia J may be running the latest software and every update released by Sony arrives on your device at different times depending on the network carrier or locality.
Over the Air Procedure
1. Go to "Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates."
2. Check if there is an available software upgrade for your device.
3. Follow the instructions provided for you and may possibly require the use of Sony PC Companion depending on your location.
4. Do not forget to create a backup of all your personal information and data files before updating your Xperia J.
5. Once you're ready to upgrade your phone via OTA, plug the handset to its AC power and use Wi-Fi connection instead of mobile data to avoid traffic.
Sony PC Companion
1. Download the Sony PC Companion from the Sony Web site to your computer.
2. Install the downloaded executable file of the Sony PC Companion.
3. Launch the Sony PC Companion and connect your Xperia J.
4. The suite will automatically install all drivers needed and prompts you for any updates available.
5. Simply follow the backup guide and installation procedure for your smartphone.
6. Make sure to have a stable Internet connection and never to turn off the machine or the handset during the upgrade to prevent corrupting the firmware.
