Sony finally released the latest firmware for Xperia ZL using Over-the-Air update with build of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS.

Sony Xperia ZL with model number C6506 is currently receiving the said OTA update that is running stock firmware. The latest firmware has a software number 10.1.1.A.1253 and was released on '2013-05-17.'

Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update has a size of 66.1MB and can be downloaded within 10 minutes provided you have a good Internet connection. In terms of any changes, the user interface remains the same but there are some adjustments included in the update.

Preparation before Updating your Device

1. Create a backup of all your personal information and data files on your device. There may be a chance that the update will wipe all files inside the Xperia ZL.

2. Battery level must be at least 80 per cent to avoid power interruption. It is recommended to the plug the handset to its AC power when updating over the air.

3. Connect to a stable Wi-Fi connection and do not use your mobile Internet.

4. Check if you still have enough internal storage for the new firmware. Simply go the settings and find the storage section. Uninstall applications you do not need to free space.

How to Update your Sony Xperia ZL

This update is only available for Sony Xperia ZL C6506 factory-unlocked model and handsets with custom ROMs will not receive the upgrade.

1. Go to 'Settings'

2. Click on 'About Phone'

3. Select 'Software Updates'

4. Then tap 'Check for Updates'

5. Follow the instructions provided to you and make sure your Internet connection is stable.

6. If the update is interrupted, a prompt will display on how to resume it.
