The first official trailer for multi-starrer "American Hustle" is out. All characters Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner don the 70s look. The upcoming film is directed by David O. Russell, who also directed Cooper and Lawrence in last year's Oscar-winning hit "Silver Linings Playbook."

The official trailer looked promising with its female star cast Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams looking super sexy and raunchy to some extent with their smoky eyes. "You ever took a quarter from a phone booth?" Bale asks in one scene with Cooper. "You stole. I just got bigger balls than you."

The film was shot on a 2-month schedule using locations in and around Boston, Mass. and New York. Filming for the "American Hustle" had to be put on hold in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon attack with the city in lockdown. After lockdown was lifted, the film wrapped its Boston shoot and spent its final few days of production in New York City.

"American Hustle" is based upon the Abscam (sometimes ABSCAM) scandal of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Abscam was an FBI sting operation run from the agency's Hauppauge, Long Island office in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The operation initially targeted trafficking in stolen property but was converted to a public corruption investigation.

Bale plays con artist Irving Rosenfeld, sporting 70s stlye beard, collar-length hair and tinted aviators. The official trailer promised an action-packed flick.

"[Audiences] can expect a wild world of amazing characters," Russell told "Good Morning America." "People with their passions and their hearts that was inspired by this wild event that happened back then."

"American Hustle", by Annapurna Pictures, is scheduled for released on December 25, 2013.
