Former Australian Olympic Champion Swimmer Geoff Huegill and his wife Sara Hills have been recently charged with possession of cocaine at Randwick racecourse.

NSW police confirmed the couple was taken into custody after the security personnel of the Australian Turf Club informed the cops of a suspicious activity on the fourth level of the new grandstand.

A police spokesman said Huegill and Hills were in possession of a "small quantity of white powder believed to be cocaine."

"Police were patrolling Randwick racecourse as part of their general duties when they were directed to a suite in the grandstand by security personnel...Police spoke to a 35-year-old old men and his 30-year-old wife, who were alleged to be in possession of a small quantity of white powder, believed to be cocaine," the police spokesman cited.

The couple were both charged with one count of possession of the prohibited drug. They are slated to appear in Waverly local court on May 14.

According to the witnesses, Huegill and Hills were at the Moet and Chandon lounge when the police detained them. The turf club, however, have clearly denied commenting on this case.

Huegill, also known as Skippy, has a tumultuous career. He gained his recognition as butterfly swimmer, in silver and bronze medals in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

After failing to qualify for the Australian team in 2005 and 2006, Hills retired from competitive swimming. His career was marred after he started taking drugs, followed by heavy depression.

The 35-year-old Huegill finally made a comeback in 2009 after he qualified for Telstra Australian Championships. In the same year, he won the Australian Short Course Championships. Huegill also penned his autobiography, "Be Your Best," published by Random House.
