One Direction Wins ARIA's Best International Artist Award
One Direction is declared Australia's Best International Artist Award by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) in an awarding ceremony held Sunday at The Star's Event Centre in Sydney.
The British boy group beats other international artists such as Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, Michael Buble, Taylor Swift and Pink in the award decided by public voting.
Various sources have predicted that the five-man ensemble will grab the award for the second time in a row due to its plethora of fans although Pink has made her presence in Australia through her tour series.
The group was not around to personally receive the award, but they prepared a video message for their fans. Liam Payne, in particular, says his 'a massive massive thank you for our second ARIA best international artist award in a row.'
Cameron Adams, however, tells News.com.au that this pre-recorded message is already expected, considering the number of Aussie fans that have helped them land the award.
One Direction, composed of Liam, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, just completed their Australian tour last month, which was initially slated for September but was eventually rescheduled. Just a few weeks ago, the group also gathered two awards from the American Music Awards -- Pop/Rock Group and Pop/Rock Album for their album Up All Night.
The group has come a long way ever since they joined the seventh season of The X Factor UK. They initially auditioned as solo artists but eventually put together into a group to qualify for the Groups category of the competition. They finished third in the competition, and has since made a string of hit songs, such as 'What Makes You Beautiful,' 'One Thing,' 'Live While You're Young' and 'Little Things.'
They recently released their third album, Midnight Memories, containing tracks such as "Best Song Ever" and "Story of My Life."
