The boys of One Direction have landed in a controversy all thanks to their tattoos. Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have rubbed off in the wrong direction with their "Directioners" following a tweet yesterday. What was it all about?

One Direction has grown up in just a short span of time and along with that change is the number of tattoos inked on the bodies of the boys. In celebration of the boys love for their tattoos, Niall, Harry, Liam, Louis and Zayn had asked their fans to share their 1D body art tattoo over the weekend.

"Have a real #1D tattoo? Show us!" stated the boys on their official Twitter page which has over 10 million followers.

This tweet was followed by another which was as follows.

"Submit a 90 sec YouTube video to 1d3dfan@gmail.com and show us why you should be in the @1D3Dmovie."

A similar statement was posted on the band's official Facebook page. Of course, not every "Directioner" is of legal age which had prompted a few followers of the boys to go on an outrage.

"Okay One Direction, I love you guys to pieces I really do, but promoting young girls to get a tattoo?" commented one Facebook fan, Julie Zwagermnan.

"I shall now go beg my dad for a tattoo even though I'm only 13 haha," stated Hannah Morgan.

It was too late before the boys realized their mistake. The tweet and Facebook post was immediately removed by the boys.

"This tweet was posted in error and has now been removed," stated Simon Jones, One Direction's spokesperson, adding, "One Direction does not want to encourage any of their fans to get 1D tattoos."

Obviously, "Directioners" would do anything the boys would ask them to do. Note to the fans, getting inked should be a personal decision thought through and through. A boy band's request should not be the trigger to getting tatted up.

With regards to tattoos, Harry Styles is the latest member of the band who had gotten himself inked. Check out all of Harry Styles tattoos here.
