A 29-year-old woman from Melbourne was saved by the police from her online date gone wrong, as she realized she was being kidnapped and brought to a house with a grave dug in the backyard.

The woman, a resident of Footscray suburb, went on a date with a man she met in an online dating service. She was allegedly driven to Pakenham from their rendezvous in Melbourne CBD.

It was not clear how long the woman had been stuck with the alleged kidnapper, but police arrived and apprehended the man, who has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and other charges.

The man allegedly demanded cash from the woman and her family in Nepal.

Police did not tell The Age how they were informed of the woman's situation, nor how they were able to rescue her. They just said they found the woman and the man in the backyard.

The man is scheduled to appear at Dandenong Magistrates Court Friday.
