Online Porn Easy Too Access: Research; Cameron Diaz Is A 'Porn Addict'
A new survey was conducted on 18-year-old young adolescents who feel intense pressure to comply with the pornographic norms. A major of 80 per cent of the young adolescents commented on how easy it was to come across explicit images and videos in new media.
Forty-six per cent of the participants agreed to have indulged in 'sexting' as a part of their everyday life. A majority of them admitted that porn was making their life harder. Almost half the boys and two-thirds of the girls commented that in the case of porn being less easy to access, growing up will not be a lot easier for them.
One out of 10 admitted that by the young age of 11, watching porn was common and 70 per cent of them said that it was normal among their classmates to watch porn.
Fifty-five per cent of the young adolescents had stumbled across explicit images while on the internet, making them worried and uncomfortable while only one out of 10 told their parents about it. About two-thirds of the participants believed that porn is addictive.
While porn addiction is not limited only to young adolescents, celebrity Cameron Diaz has also admitted to being addicted to porn on Jimmy Kimmel's chat show last 2011.
Associate Director of Institute of Public Policy Research, Dalia Ben-Galim, said that the data from the survey shows that porn is prevalent among teenagers and the young teenage women are aware of how damaging they are. She explained that it is a concern as online pornography is a great influence to attitudes and behaviour of the adolescents. Many of the young people feel that sex education in school is not in pace with the digital and social media lifestyles.
Around 72 per cent of the young adolescents believe that unrealistic attitudes towards sex are born due to pornography that leads to pressure on young women to act and look a certain way, while only a small percentage of pressure is put on the young men.
About seventy per cent of the participants were of the view because of porn and society was encouraged to view women as sex objects.
