The Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure specials have recorded an increase in the number of travellers wanting to visit Australia, says a tourism official.

Though no data has been presented, Tourism Australia (TA) Spokesperson, Nick Baker announced that the four episode specials, shown in Australia and the United States last week, have prompted Australian-bound bookings, mostly travellers from the United States.

"We've seen a massive spike in people going on to them and we've also heard from some of the operators in the US that have already seen, after two days, big hits," Baker said, according to ABC News.

Baker added that the Oprah specials have helped boost Australia's newly launched tourism campaign, using the slogan, "Nothing Like Australia'.

He explained that their campaign, launched six months ago, has been proven and affirmed by Oprah's move to visit Australia for her latest tv specials.

"If Oprah makes the decision that she can go anywhere in the world and she goes to Australia, then I think that manifestly does that," Baker was quoted as saying by the ABC News.

The tourism official also attributed to Oprah's Australian tv specials the increase in the numbers of hits of the country's official tourism website in the last few days, compared to the hits recorded during the same period last year. He added that other similar websites have also benefited from Oprah's presence.

ABC News said that the Australian government spent an approximate $5 million to make Oprah's show possible and ensure its success. The four-episode tv specials is expected to hit the television screens in roughly 150 countries in the world.
