Oprah Winfrey’s revelation of a long lost half-sister provided the highest ratings of the show in six years with an average 9.6 household rating.

Winfrey said that it was only in October that she found out that she had a younger half sister named Patricia who was given up for adoption by their mother Vernita Lee in 1963.

Lee kept the pregnancy and the baby a secret and during the time Winfrey was living with her father.

“Imagine my shock just a few months ago, at the end of October, when I found out I have another sister living just 90 minutes away,” Winfrey said.

Patricia admitted during the show that she though Winfrey could possibly be her sister after watching Vernita Lee give a television interview that matched with the facts she knew about birth mother. She was able to confirm the link through DNA tests that verified she was related to Oprah's niece.

Oprah said during a clip promoting the show in its final season:" I was given some news that literally shook me to my core. This time, I'm the one being reunited. I was keeping a family secret for months, and on Monday you're going to hear it straight from me."
