More choices would be available for Australians who would subscribe to broadband services under the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Among the new choices are to get monthly deals with Optus, which inked recently a trial agreement with NBN. Optus, the country's second largest telecommunications company, will make available to Australians seven consumer and home office packages beginning Nov. 21.

"We've decided to offer NBN plans on a monthly basis so consumer and home office customers can start benefiting from true competition right away, with a much richer online experience," Optus Consumer Fixed Director Anthony Shiner said in a statement.

The Optus packages include a new $39.99 broadband plan available also to current postpaid mobile customers on contract, monthly plans beginning at $19 for up to 40GB of data when combined with any Optus postpaid mobile plan and basic Social speed pack and option to upgrade to Multimedia and Multimedia extreme speed packs ranging from $59.99 to $79.99 plans.

Home phone bundled packages that offer combined broadband and home phone deals are also available beginning at $64.94 for 120 GB of data.

Mr Shiner said as the NBN roll-out progresses, Optus will release more plans and broadband bundle offers that would combine with the company's latest digital products to help clients stay better connected and entertained.

Senator Stephen Conroy lauded the Optus offer as proof that the NBN provides comparable pricing to current plans available on the market with superior service.

"It is very encouraging to see that even at this early stage of the network rollout, retailers are already making full use of the NBN to offer a range of broadband speeds, prices and services including home and mobile phone bundles," Mr Conroy said in a statement.

"The NBN will not only deliver very affordable prices as we have seen so far, but will also provide all Australians with a future-proof network that will connect our cities and regional centres and make us a world-leading digital economy," he added.

Besides Optus, other retail service provides such as iiNet, Internode, Exetel and iPrimus have also unveiled their NBN offers.
