Michelle Hurst, who plays the character of Ms Claudette in "Orange is the New Black," has woken-up from a medically induced coma. To perform multiple-surgeries near her spine, doctors had kept her in coma for more than two weeks.

The actress was injured in a car crash before Christmas. Michelle Hurst had suffered major injuries. A fundraising page has been set-up to help the actress, with her medical expense and time-off of work. According to this page, Michelle Hurt is "progressing slowly, but progressing!"

"Orange is the New Black" co-stars have tweeted links to the fundraising page, asking their followers to contribute. Natasha Lyonne had tweeted: "Please give what you can to help Michelle Hurst -- the amazing actress who plays Miss Claudette on OINTB."

One of the inmates, Ms Claudette is a Haitian in "Orange is the New Black." As a child, she was a victim of child trafficking. Ms Claudette was sold into the child labour trade, and as a grown-up, she ran a similar illegal operation.

"Orange is the New Black" is based on Piper Kerman's memoir of the same name. To help raise funds for Michelle Hurst, Kreman had also tweeted: "Michelle, AKA "Miss Claudette" RT @TeamOITNB: Please RT Michelle Hurst was in a bad car accident & she needs our help."

Natasha Lyonne, who portrays Nicky Nicholas in "Orange is the New Black," has bagged a major role in Amy Poehler's new comedy, "Old Soul." This project recently received NBC's pilot episode order. According Deadline.com, Natasha Lyonne's character will be that of a young woman who is trying to discover herself. The character also works as an aide to a group of elderly, opinionated people.

"This show, hopefully, will blow up some of the cliches we think about old people," said Bob Greenblatt, chairman at NBC, as quoted by Deadline.com. "It's been a while since The Golden Girls gave us a funny and insightful ensemble of seniors, and I hope this show will do that too."
