In August, 2013, the social media erupted with the news of Laura Prepon quitting "Orange is the New Black." Buzzfeed later reported that the actress will return for only one episode in Season 2. The report had said that Prepon will shoot to wrap-up her character's story-line. Prepon plays the role of Alex Vause, a lesbian inmate and ex-lover of the principal character, Piper Chapman.

According to media reports, Prepon's character will appear in four episodes of Season 2. Alex Vause's story-line will reportedly have an open-ending, making it possible for the character to return in Season 3. Buzzfeed had reported that Prepon is already negotiating her Season 3 contract.

Netflix has not confirmed any of the media reports. Prepon has also kept mum about her character's screen-time in the upcoming season. Prepon's decision to not renew her contract for Season 2, and appear in only a few episodes, might have prompted Jenji Kohan, creator of "Orange is the Black," to take the ensemble story-line route. The new season will not solely focus on Piper Chapman. All the characters' story-lines will get equal focus. Without Alex Vause's constant presence, Chapman's storyline might undergo some changes. However, the second season promises to be more compelling and richer.

"Orange is the New Black" Season 2 is speculated to premiere sometime in spring, 2014. Netflix had renewed the drama-comedy even before the premiere of the first season. This original Netflix original drama series is based on Piper Kerman's memoir, "Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison."
