Lauren Morelli, a writer on the hugely popular "Orange is the New Black," has said that it was while writing for the Netflix drama-comedy she realised that she is gay.

In a blog-post on PolicyMic, titled "While Writing for 'Orange Is the New Black,' I Realized I Am Gay," Morelli, 31, shared that her life fell into a "parallel rhythm" with Piper Chapman's story the moment she joined the production for the first episode. For the writer, it went from "interesting to terrifying in a matter of months."

Piper, a bisexual, is the principal protagonist of "Orange is the New Black." She is sent to women's prison for 15 months for transporting drug money for her lesbian lover, Alex Vause. Vause is also an inmate at the same prison.

"In Piper and Alex, I'd found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like," Morelli said.

Morelli joined the production of "Orange is the New Black" five months after her marriage. She and her ex-husband were in a relationship for six years. Morelli reveals in her blog-post that her wedding "was the sort of wedding that makes you believe in absolute partnership and the strength that can come from facing obstacles, like the life-threatening illness that my new husband had battled for the majority of our relationship."

The writer says that it was in fall 2012 that she realised she is gay. It took Morelli some time to accept the truth. She is now out to her family, her friends and most of her co-workers on the show.

"Now, when I am in the writers' room or on set, I no longer feel like I am stuck in the middle of two truths," Morelli writes.

Netflix will be releasing all the episodes of Season 2 of "Orange is the New Black" on June 06, 2014. "... as we are gearing up for the release of season 2, it feels liberating and appropriate to live my life in front of you," Morelli says in her blog.
