Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "The Originals" Season 2, episode 2 titled "Alive and Kicking."
In 1702, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) placed a dagger on Kol's (Nathaniel Buzolic) heart while he was in Cadiz, Spain because he refused to stick together with the Original hybrid and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) as they get away from their vampire hunter father Mikael. Kol vowed that the day will come when he will make the Original hybrid suffer.
Klaus and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) go on a "witch hunt" because the Original hybrid is still looking for the missing weapon that can kill him. Elijah argues with Klaus that Hayley's hybrid behaviour is getting out of hand so she must reconnect with her werewolf side to have some humanity and dignity again.
Elijah shows up at Marcel's (Charles Michael Davis) new vampire community to make an agreement. The Original vampire will allow Marcel's social experiment to continue if he helps in finding the White Oak stake.
Flashback scenes showed that Elijah used to be Marcel's mentor before he became a vampire. Elijah had difficulty in fulfilling his job because of Klaus' behaviour and Kol's involvement during the entire process.
Esther is getting suspicious with what Davina (Danielle Campbell) is hiding so she instructed Kol, who is in Kaleb's (Daniel Sharman) body, to continue in befriending the teenage witch in order to find out her secret weapon. Meanwhile, the Original witch is busy creating moonlight rings for the werewolves who will pledge their allegiance to hers.
At the bayou, Klaus and Hayley share a teacher-student moment. The Original hybrid encouraged the new hybrid to step up and be the leader of the werewolf pack. Klaus and Hayley found out about the moonlight rings that Cassie/Esther creates for the werewolves from Oliver (Chase Coleman).
Marcel and Davina meet up to talk about the White Oak stake but their discussion turned south when Elijah showed up. Marcel thinks Elijah pissed off Davina but the Original vampire figured out that the young witch knows exactly where the weapon is.
Klaus decided to face the young witch that dared to make moonlight rings without his permission. However, the Klaus-Cassie/Esther meet up made the Original hybrid realize that his mother is not controlling Cassie.
Klaus' suspicions started to rise after Cassie served him chamomile tea, referred to vampires as a plague made flesh and called him "Niklaus" several times like they were familiar with each other.
Kaleb asked Davina out to further find out what she is hiding. Finn reminded Kol that their mother wants answers. Marcel called Davina to tell her that Elijah thinks she has the weapon and it is dangerous for her because anyone who wants to kill an Original will come after her.
Davina's date with Kaleb got disrupted when werewolves attacked them so the young witch summoned Mikael for help. The Original vampire hunter killed the "filthy dogs" without hesitation.
Elijah arrives in time to save Davina from Mikael's attack because the bracelet controlling the Original hunter got removed from Davina's arm. "Hello son, I'd hope to see your brother first but we have unfinished business as well," Mikael told Elijah before attacking him with the White Oak stake. Marcel helped Davina find her bracelet so she can control Mikael before he could kill Elijah and Kaleb or Kol finally saw Davina's deadly weapon.
Back at the French Quarter, Klaus revealed to Elijah that he finally met the witch and after observing Cassie's behaviour, he is convinced that the young witch is not guided by his mother. "She is our mother," Klaus declared.
Then, Elijah revealed to Klaus that their father, Mikael, has also returned and he holds the stake. "Which of our parents do we kill first?" Klaus asked his brother.
Kaleb/Kol confronted his brother Finn about the attack that happened and Cassie/Esther admitted that it was her plan. When Esther asked what Davina's secret weapon is, Kol lied and stated that he saw nothing because he got knocked out during the attack.
The episode ends with Marcel telling Elijah that if he wants help in finding Davina, the Original vampire must tell him where he stands. "I don't do teams," Elijah explained. However, Marcel left Elijah with Gia, a newbie vampire, who needs mentoring. "I hope you do better with her than you did with me," Marcel stated before walking away.
"The Originals" Season 2 will return with episode 3 titled "Every Mother's Son" on Monday night, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
