'The Originals' and 'The Vampire Diaries' crossover episode: Klaus and Stefan to meet again in New Orleans
CW TV series “The Vampire Diaries” ("TVD") and its spinoff “The Originals” ("TO") is set to give fans a treat: a crossover episode. Series creator and executive producer Julie Plec recently teased in an interview how the Salvatore and Mikaelson vampires will cross paths in the upcoming “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” crossover episode.
Spoiler alert: This feature contains major “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 and “The Originals” Season 3 spoilers.
Entertainment Weekly (EW) reports that CW President Mark Pedowitz made the announcement about the crossover episode of CW’s supernatural drama series during the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour last Sunday. Pedowitz stated that the fans will see “organically” a crossover episode but not of the size and scope that the CW Network does for “Arrow” and “The Flash.”
“They have to make sense [story-wise]. If they don’t make sense story-wise, don’t do it, don’t force it — the audience can tell,” Pedowitz explained.
Plec revealed in an interview with EW that the team behind the hit supernatural series have always wanted to do another crossover episode but could never find the organic storyline, so they never forced it. However, one of the storylines in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 happened to be an organic way to bring the vampire characters from Mystic Falls to New Orleans, where the original vampires currently live.
In “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 flashforward scenes, a mysterious female vampire hunter wants Stefan (Paul Wesley) dead. Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) instructed his younger brother to wake him up when his girlfriend Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) also wakes up from the linking spell placed on her, but Stefan woke Damon up in the latest season’s premiere episode because he needs help.
After finding out about the situation, Damon reminded Stefan of the big trouble he is in because the vampire hunter will not stop until he is dead. Meanwhile, the main storyline in “The Originals” Season 3 is on the vampire sirelines war because of the dire prophecy on the original vampires Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies).
“The storylines happen to match up in a way that Stefan [Paul Wesley] has to go on the run and seek safe haven, and lo and behold, New Orleans is that safe haven, and who does he come face-to face-with but Klaus Mikaelson,” Plec teased.
Plec added that she is excited because the upcoming two-episode set of “The Vampire Diaries-The Originals” cohabitation is going to be good.
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 and “The Originals” Season 3 will return with brand new episodes on Friday, Jan. 29.
