‘Orphan Black’ comic book to deal with alternate reality where Beth did not commit suicide
"Orphan Black" returns for its final season in April 2017
As the acclaimed TV series prepares for its fifth and final season, IDW has collaborated with Boat Rocker Media to come up with a comic book that explores an alternate reality wherein Beth had not killed herself. This upcoming comic book is titled “Orphan Black: Deviations” and begs the “what if” question that has been bothering a lot of viewers of the show.
“Orphan Black: Deviations” comprises a part of IDW’s “Deviations” line, wherein popular stories are given alternate storylines where one significant event in their lore is altered. As for “Orphan Black: Deviations,” it will take readers to an alternate plot where Sarah Manning never saw Beth’s suicide at all, but, instead, succeeded in preventing it from ever happening. In the TV series, the suicide spun off a major plot point that ultimately led Sarah to reveal that she is a clone.
The Hollywood Reporter says that this comic book will be written by Heli Kennedy and will feature the art of Wayne Nichols. This will be a bold deviation from the rest of what is actually happening for IDW.
While the other “Deviations” titles will give glimpses into the road less travelled, the “Orphan Black” title will be a full series on its own and will give an insight as to what happened to Project LEDA if Sarah did not meddle into Beth’s life and made her discoveries.
In the actual “Orphan Black” TV series, it has been confirmed that Evelyne Brochu, James Frain and Calwyn Shurgold will be returning for the show’s fifth and final season. This upcoming Season 5 has also added Stephen McHattie of “Watchmen” to take on the critical role of Neolution’s 170 year old founder, P.T. Westmoreland.
Surely, “Orphan Black” is not yet done with Beth’s legacy. This could lead “Orphan Black: Deviations” to shed more light on the series’ twisted lore. The comic book comes just in time as the actual TV show prepares to air its final season. As for “Orphan Black: Deviations,” it will be out in March 2017 and will feature 40 pages in its first issue.
